This month has been all about inversions for me as I prepare for my first headstand workshop. Just in case you're wondering, I'm incredibly nervous (and excited), so the research and prep time have been ... well, it's been a lot.
When I think about the benefits of hanging out upside down, the obvious comes to mind- the change in perspective, how everything is turned on its head, and how your position can shift the world around you. In the subtle body, these positions unlock the breath between the core and the throat, unblocking our voice and encouraging us to speak. In the physical body, the prep leaves my core shaking as I build and sustain the strength I need to safely lift my body.
In a world that increasingly feels upside down, this month I'm reminding myself that my perspective can and will change, to listen to my own voice and the wisdom it holds, and that I can always come home to my core, even and especially when it shakes.
Coming Up March/April: I'm excited to start this new adventure off with a bang. On March 28th, I'm teaching an inversion workshop focused on the headstand at Magic Held Here. Check out the site for details and to sign up. Special thanks to Danielle and Atha Yoga for allowing me to do a preview with this spring's yoga teacher cohort!
