Off the Mat: Lessons in Flexibility

As a yoga teacher, I talk a lot about strength—finding stability in our bodies, cultivating resilience in our minds, and showing up with consistency. But lately, I’ve been working on something a little different: flexibility. And I don’t just mean the kind that helps you touch your toes.

I had been pouring my energy into an upcoming workshop, excited to bring people together for a deep dive into movement and mindfulness. It was scheduled for next Friday, and I was ready. Then, through no fault of anyone’s, it got pushed back to mid-April. Just like that, my plans shifted. And, of course, I was disappointed.

Disappointment is a natural reaction when things don’t go as expected. It can feel like hitting a wall after moving full speed ahead. But yoga teaches us that flexibility—both physically and mentally—can help us move through these moments with more ease. Instead of resisting change, we practice softening into it, making space for what’s next.

So, I’m taking this as an opportunity to breathe, to reset, and to refine. The workshop will still happen, just a little later than planned. In the meantime, I’m using this as a chance to reflect on how we can meet setbacks with openness, rather than frustration.

If you’ve ever found yourself caught off guard by change, I invite you to join me in this practice. How can you reframe disappointment into an opportunity? How can you bring the flexibility you cultivate on the mat into your daily life?

Long story short—my workshop is now happening in mid-April. Stay tuned for more details, and in the meantime, let’s keep moving forward, together.
